These wavellite and turquoise specimens have been analyzed by microprobe and we will send the results to the purchaser, with the SEM photograph of both species. Palazuelo de las Cuevas area is known worldwide for variscite, that were worked for making beads in the Neolithic period, it was 5.000 years ago.

RM732   Phosphohedyphane with quartz

These curious specimens from Taouz mine were collected in February 2013. These cavities are covered by hexagonal prismatic crystals of greenish to yellow color, opaque to translucent, forming nice aggregates. Interestingly, some of the cavities are coated by brilliant small quartz crystals, giving an excellent contrast to the specimen. Iniatilly, these crystals were identified as pyromorphite, but after new SEM-EDS analysis, we can confirm that these crystals contain calcium, with chlorine, phosphorus and lead.

RM722   Franklinite with willemite and calcite
More photos

This specimen is notable for several reasons. On the one hand a very nice franklinite octahedron, an unusual iron and zinc oxide, with good size, and curved and brilliant faces (17 x 17 mm). On the back side it has some fractures that allow us see the metallic luster. On a matrix of calcite. On the other hand, we have a doubly terminated prismatic crystal of willemite, also with good size (17 x 10 mm). Willemite species usually presents fluorescence, and in this case, under shortwave UV light (also in the longwave UV), it has an intense yellowish green color. Calcite from Franklin is also notable for the intense red-orange fluorescence. In one specimen we have two species with good crystals and size.

RM715   Malachite with chalcopyrite

These malachite specimens come from works those were carried out in the railroad called "Basque Y". During these works, some rocks containing this mineral were extracted. They show prismatic radial aggregates of deep green malachite with an exceptional brilliance. Crystals are flattened due to its growth in fissures. Some transparency could be observed. Its origin is due to alteration of the original chalcopyrite matrix, present as small but brilliant granules, accompanied by hematite. The fibrous shape, color and luster make them very aesthetic.

RM711   Topaz with opal-AN and rutile inclusions
More photos

A nice cluster of topaz crystals with very well defined faces and edges, with a developed prism, cuted by the basal pinacoid and other order prism faces on top. The tile color presents zoning, more intense in pinacoidal faces. From transparent to translucent, with good brilliance. With an aesthetic opal-AN aggregate on one of the main crystals. Opal presents intense green fluorescence under SW-UV light. Rutile inclusions can be observed as thin needles in the topaz prisms and in the opal. One of the topaz crystals presents a minor damage. They are very aerial disposed on a rhyolite matrix. Nice miniature. It is very interesting the origin of the word tepetate (tepetatl).

In this specimen we can observe a group of quartz crystals, one of them dominant, with well defined faces and edges. We see a well-developed prism with rhombohedral terminal faces and a possible small trapezohedron face. Transparence and brilliance are both excellent and with a very uniform smoky tone. It is not easy to find specimens of alpine smoky quartz at reasonable prices, without nicks, and less with this size.
