RM2998   Pyrolusite and manganite
More photos

A novelty from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines 2022. These specimens come from a recent find in this mining area of the Black Forest and are reminiscent of those found decades ago in this area. They show radial aggregates of extremely brilliant pyrolusite crystals that partially replace manganite. By X-ray diffraction we have been determined the presence of both species, even with a certain predominance of manganite. They usually appear on a matrix of pink granite or as groups of large crystals in parallel growth. In the specimens we can observe the inclined flattened terminal faces. They are highly aesthetic pieces those will become part of the best specimens of these species for European mineralogy. We will send the XRD to the buyer.

RM2986   Anhydrite, pyrite and dolomite
More photos

Specimen of anhydrite formed by numerous prismatic to tabular crystals, well defined and interpenetrated. On the back we can see the matrix formed by dolomite and brilliant pyrite crystals. Specimens from this Italian mine, located north of Boccheggiano, were collected at the end of the 20th century. The mine worked from the early 1980s, currently the mine is closed.

RM2983   Baryte and limonite
More photos

Baryte crystals from this quarry are a classic of Catalan mineralogy. They appear in the fissures of the slates, usually covered by iron oxydes. In this specimen we can see various groups of prismatic crystals, brilliant and transparent, rich in faces. Among them, a larger one stands out in which we can see the faces of orthorhombic prisms of various orders truncated by pinacoidal faces. Nowadays it is very difficult to find specimens in this quarry and even less with the quality we offer.

Main crystal: 14 x 7 mm.
Found in ±1987.

RM2982   Quartz with kaolinite
More photos

Floating druse of quartz crystals forming pineapple growths, with a good luster and a slightly yellowish hue. On the backside, also crystallized, we can see the typical kaolinite layer of this deposit. It is accompanied by a limonite that was probably pyrite.
These specimens were collected in this A Coruña quarry that exploits quartz, one of the main mines in the world due to the quality and quantity of its reserves. The mine was discovered in 1968 by three Galicians who gave their name (from their surnames SEñarís, RAma and BALboa) to the concession and who found it while exploring these mountains in the Pico Sacro area in search of "seixo" (from the Galician: hard white rock) of good quality.

RM2977   Celestine
More photos

These celestite specimens come from a classic locality on the Cantabrian coast such as Langre, together with Laredo. These are idiomorphic crystals formed within a nodule. Brilliant, defined and transparent, with a delicate bluish color.

RM2975   Fluorite, quartz and calcite

These fluorite crystals have a cubic appearance with growths in tiles on the surfaces of the faces. In this specimen we observe a more intense violet to purple color on the edges and on the outside of the crystals, while inner core has a soft green color. They are disposed on a matrix with quartz crystals. Under shortwave ultraviolet light they fluoresce bluish.

RM2968   Hematite
More photos

This is a very good sized specimen of hematite from the group of mines called "Monte de Hierro" (Iron Hill), whose concessions were between the terms of San Nicolás del Puerto and Constantina, although most of the surface is found in the first municipality mentioned. This specimen belongs from the Trigo collection (Mataró) and according to the label it was extracted in 1989 by Julián García.

RM2967   Gmelinite and analcime

These aggregates of hexagonal gmelinite crystals are a classic of Northern Ireland mineralogy. In this specimen we can enjoy a vacuole covered by orange crystals, very well defined and brilliant. They are accompanied by small analcime crystals, richly faceted and transparent. Gmelinite specimens from this quarry were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence and SEM-EDS by Stephen Moreton. The results indicated that both gmelinite-Ca and gmelinite-Na are present and even zoned in the same crystal.

Size: 7.9 x 7.4 x 3.2 cm.
Main crystal: 4.3 mm.

RM2965   Pitticite, 'Ganomatite' - Scorodite, Galena
More photos

This is another one of those specimens from old collections, as evidenced by the various accompanying labels, that contain discredited or dubious mineral names. Even so, the historical and scientific interest it presents has made us offer it.
In the piece we observe a core of galena with halos of alteration of the vein in the socket. In the cavities we find numerous well-formed crystals of cerussite. And in some areas we observe greenish and honeyed tones probably corresponding to pyromorphite, but also to possible scorodite. The 'ganomatite' is considered a scorodite with impurities, while the pitticite is a questionable species formed by amorphous hydrated iron arsenate. Although this last mineral is currently accepted, it is questioned.

Size: 5.4 x 4 x 3.9 cm.
Found in ±1977.

RM2964   Conichalcite, Azurite and chenevixite
More photos

These specimens were extracted in Loma de Hamapega (hill), a short mountain range between the localities of Alanís and Guadalcanal. Various minerals were analyzed, among which we highlight conichalcite, green in color, azurite and some earthy aggregates that turned out to be chenevixite. We will send analyses to the buyer. A sample for local collectors.
