This floater specimen shows a curious and aesthetic skeletal growth of arsenopyrite crystals. Oquerous, extremely brilliant, with flattened and striated forms. An exceptional piece for this Portuguese mine that never ceases to amaze us for its top quality specimens. A very different specimen from Panasqueira.
Specimens of libethenite from Miguel Vacas mine are seen in the market, but with this size of crystal, brilliance, sharpness and color not really many of them can be find, but rather few. You do not need a magnifying glass to enjoy the pseudo-octahedral crystals of this phosphate. It is accompanied by pseudomalachite, as is usual for the locality, and on a quartz matrix. A first quality one, yes!
Group of hyaline quartz crystals, well developed and defined, with some curious crystals of fluorapatite, with a marked geometrical color zoning and inclusions. Theya re accompanied by brilliant pyrite crystals on muscovite and siderite.
Groups of tabular saléeite to metasaléeite crystal aggregates, with a characteristic greenish-yellow color, transparent to translucent, due to the loss of water. The shade is much more greenish than the autunite.
This old specimen stands out for the large number of oligoclase crystals, a variety of albite, very well defined and rich in facets. They are accompanied by prismatic crystals of actinolite, with an intense green color. A piece for collectors of Iberian deposits. These quarries were worked until the end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s of the last century.
A good sized specimen partially covered by several libethenite crystals, very bright and accompanied by pseudomalachite. Under loupe we can observe pseudo-octahedral crystals, with transparency and intense green color. From a classic Portuguese mine exploted since Roman times.
Groups of autunite tabular crystals with an intense and characteristic yellow color, brilliance, transparent, some of them growing epitaxial on torbernite (metatorbernite). They are disposed covering cavities of a matrix of goethite. An old specimen from a classic Portuguese locality.
Excellent combo formed by a group of ferberite crystals with parallel growths, with an intense black color and good brightness, peppered by lenticular siderite crystals. They are supported by a hyaline quartz crystal partially covered by muscovite. Note that quartz has a small dent on one of the faces of the terminal rhombohedra, without affecting the aesthetics of the sample. Arsenopyrite has grown on the ferberite. A specimen with a superb aesthetics, from a classic locality like Panasqueira.
Group of very sharp fluorapatite crystals showing defined prism faces and hexagonal dipyramids. Good transparence, color between green to greyish, depending on light. Very aesthetically disposed on a matrix of muscovite hexagonal rosettes, with white dolomite. Also with some cyclic twinned marcasite crystals, very brilliant and defined. Take a look under magnication lens. An excellent specimen from this Portuguese classic mine.
