RM732   Phosphohedyphane with quartz

These curious specimens from Taouz mine were collected in February 2013. These cavities are covered by hexagonal prismatic crystals of greenish to yellow color, opaque to translucent, forming nice aggregates. Interestingly, some of the cavities are coated by brilliant small quartz crystals, giving an excellent contrast to the specimen. Iniatilly, these crystals were identified as pyromorphite, but after new SEM-EDS analysis, we can confirm that these crystals contain calcium, with chlorine, phosphorus and lead.

RM687   Fluorapatite
More photos

We have seen many gemmy fluorapatite crystals from Imilchil, with the classic prism and more or less developed dipyramid. In this specimen we have a fantastic complexity of facets for this Moroccan locality. There is an exquisite combination of dipyramids of first and second order, highly developed, and some prism faces. It reminds Alpine fluorapatite. With honey tones and on a matrix with small magnetite crystals. A very interesting rarity. Not more available...

RM521   Azurite with Malachite after azurite
More photos

Brilliant and sharp azurite crystals that have growth in separate vugs, with prismatic forms and defined terminal faces. With good color, luster and some transparency, one of them is partly substituted by malachite. Disposed in two cavities of this hard rocky matrix.
In Kerrouchen, a classic Moroccan mineral locality, each miner has his own "hole" and get its samples. T
here are several mines aligned on a particular stratigraphic level, with low gallery development. Miners obtain the specimens by hammering, so obtaining them in matrix it is not easy.

A really interesting gemmy fluorapatite crystal. We can observe perfectly the combination of the first and second order prisms; very sharp terminal faces, with first order hexagonal dipyramid, truncated by the pinacoid. A specimen to enjoy crystallography.
Crystal shows good brilliance, transparence and a yellow color with green tones. These specimens with this quality are not common on the market, the small ones are used for gem cutting. The specimen is from a Moroccan classic mine located in the Imilchil mountains area.

RM511   Twinned cerusite with barite and galena
More photos

In this huge size specimen we observe groups of tabular lenticular aggregates of barite with a delicate reddish tones, along with gray galena that has been almost completely substituted and covered by nice cerussite crystals. Taking a look under the microscope, cerussite shows long striated prisms terminated by pyramidal faces. Also note several cyclic star twins, well defined and spectacular. See the huge size twinned crystals of cerussite, close to the mineralized areas. Different specimens from Mibladen.

The large mine of Les O is mined under the town of Mibladen. It has been worked during generations of miners in search of specimens, usually galena cerussite, barite and some wulfenite. Few weeks before my visit in February 2013 were found some mineralized veins and vugs with the specimens we offer. When those cavities were formed they had been filled by cube octahedral crystals of galena and barite. Due to the hydrothermal fluids galena was partially or totally corroded to favor the formation of cerussite.

One of the specimens with a exceptional color, excellent brilliance, a real gem. Very rich group of vanadinite crystals showing a defined hexagonal shape, with very well defined faces and edges, intense red color. Good brilliance and some transparence, with internal reflections between red and orange. Main crystals size are remarkable. Covering the barite matrix. The presence of this barite matrix is highly appreciated by collectors.

This sample was collected from one of these shafts where berber (amazigh) miners are working hard during months till they found a vug. This extended area, called Coud'a (Coudia), is located about half mile from well known ACF mine, but it is not the same mine.
The vanadinite veins mined in Coud'a, which are approximately 30 to 50 feet deep, are not the same than ACF mine and their particular mineralogy.
