RM3197   Carrollite, chalcopyrite and Calcite
More photos

Carrollite is a copper cobalt sulfide, with the very finest of the species coming from the DR Congo. This excellent specimen is sharp, well-defined, and has a bright metallic luster. The single crystal is a modified cuboctahedron and accompanied by chalcopyrite crystals in calcite matrix. It has small nicks due to mechanical work to make the crystal appear that do not affect aesthetics. The condition and aesthetics both help make this such a choice display sample.

Size: 8.8 x 7.2 x 5.4 cm.
Main crystal: 2.4 x 2 cm.

These specimens of malachite present mamelonar, botryoidal to stalactic growths, with a very intense characteristic green color and silky luster. If they are observed under magnification, they show us that the sparkly green is produced by small malachite crystals that cover the surface. The photograph does not reflect all the splendor and brilliance of the piece. They are disposed on a fibrous malachite matrix. Very aesthetic.

RM2718   Kolwezite and cobaltoan calcite
More photos

Exceptional specimen of kolwezite, which occurs as globular aggregates of olive-green crystals, partially covered by a yellowish earthy patina. They are disposed on a matrix of pink crystals of cobaltoan calcite. An exceptional sample for the species. We have analyzed it to check the content of Co. The average of various analyzes indicates a Co: Cu ratio of 1: 2.3-2.6, consistent with some results from other specimens with 1: 2 ratios. Various black aggregates appear in the sample, sometimes partially covering kolwezite, which corresponds to heterogenite. Also with small malachite crystals.
