More photos

Calcite specimens from la Florida mines are known and valued worldwide. Noted for their complex twinned crystals on a prevalent rhombohedra forms, over scalenohedra. In this sample we offer, we have extraordinary crystals in which the predominance of twinned rhombohedrons is very clear and visible. Transparence is excellent, with defined striated faces and edges, undamaged and a visible twin. It has a delicate yellowish tone. It is cleanly implemented on a matrix of dolomite and calcite. A gem of Cantabria, always surprising the collectors for its aesthetics.

RM2698   Hydrozincite

The label of this sample indicates that it is a specimen from Reocín. The matrix is a dolomite, different from the usual matrix of Udías hydrozincite specimens, which is usually limonite. In addition, the piece was acquired from Enric Kucera, who is usually quite precise in the labeling. It comes from the Joan Astor collection (Barcelona), with a handwritten label and typewritten box.

Really good sized hydrozincite specimen from this classic Spanish mine, with botryoidal forms and beige tone. The specimens with these sizes are difficult to see today. This one comes from the A. Arguijo collection. The Hermosa or Sel del Haya mine was a lead and zinc exploitation whose activity was carried out mainly between 1855 and 1932, although in the decade from 1950 to 1960 some important works were carried out. Settled on dolomitic limestone from the Aptian, the main mineralization comprises lead and zinc, the latter being the most important, both in the form of carbonates and sulphides [link].
