RM2189   Epidote and quartz

Very aesthetic group of deep green epidote fan-shaped aggregates on matrix. Epidotes have a good luster and intense green colour. There are some gemmy quartz crystals emerging from the epidote. The original label we will send to the buyer indicates that those crystals are clinozoisite, but recent studies show that all the analyzed specimens are epidote (Calvo, M., Subías, I. (2017): Epidote (not clinozoisite) and andradite garnet from Los Serranos quarry, Cabezo Negro, Albatera, Alicante. Mineral Up, 4:44-47).

Size: 6.8 x 6.2 x 4.3 cm.
Main crystal: 1 cm. aggr.
Found in 2012.

RM1871   Celestine with calcite

Celestine crystals from this locality are very appreciated by the collectors of Spanish minerals for their color, brilliance and definition of faces. This specimen shows several celestine crystals of good size, acute, with well defined faces, transparent to translucent and with a visible sky blue color. They are disposed on a matrix with calcite crystals. Nowadays it is not easy to find crystals with this size and quality from this locality.

Size: 12.4 x 8 x 4 cm.
Main crystal: 26 x 11 mm.

RM1814   Celestine and calcite

This specimen shows a very sharp celestine crystal of good size, "lanceolated", with several defined rhombohedron faces, translucent and with a visible sky blue color. It is disposed on a matrix with calcite scalenohedral crystals. Celestine crystals from this locality are very appreciated by the collectors of Spanish minerals for their color, brilliance and definition of the faces. Nowadays it is not easy to find crystals with this size and quality from this locality.

Size: 6.8 x 5.0 x 3.5 cm.
Main crystal: 15 x 6 mm.

RM1690   Andradite, var. melanite

Very rich andradite (var. melanite) specimen, with an intense color, showing interpentrated crystals and isolated ones with a good size. From a classic Spanish locality.

Size: 7.0 x 6.0 x 5.8 cm.
Main crystal: 16 x 15 mm.

RM1544   Celestine with calcite

Celestine crystals from this locality are very appreciated by the collectors of Spanish minerals for their color, brilliance and definition of faces. This specimen shows several celestine crystals of good size, "prismatic", with well defined rhombohedron faces, translucent and with a visible sky blue color. They are disposed on a matrix with calcite scalenohedral crystals. Nowadays it is not easy to find crystals with this size and quality from this locality.

Size: 8.3 x 7.8 x 3.5 cm.
Main crystal: 33 x 14 mm.

RM1190   Strontianite with limonite

Group of strontianite crystals with an elongated pyramidal habit, forming bundles and aggregates, with color between white to colorless. These specimens appeared in a concrete area of the mine Oriolana (Busot, Alicante) and initially were identified as aragonite or calcite. Further analysis indicated that this was strontianite with some calcium. It indicates that the crystals are zoned and its composition varies within the crystal. They were determined strontianita (majority), celestite, calcite with some quartz (probably due to mechanical mixtures).

Size: 7.2 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm.
Main crystal: 4 mm.
Found in 2011.
Fluorescent under long wave UV

These specimens appeared in a concrete area of the mine Oriolana (Busot, Alicante) and initially were identified as aragonite or calcite. Further analysis indicated that this was strontianite with some calcium. It indicates that the crystals are zoned and its composition varies within the crystal. They were determined strontianita (majority), celestite, calcite with some quartz (probably due to mechanical mixtures).

Size: 9.2 x 7.0 x 3.8 cm.

RM1082   Datolite with calcite and quartz

Group of datolite crystals, very rich in faces, translucent-white and well defined. They are on a matrix with calcite and quartz, with some epidote-clinozoisite. A piece of a well-known Spanish quarry from where nowadays is very difficult obtain samples because they are not making new blastings.

Size: 6.5 x 4.5 x 3.7 cm.
Main crystal: 4 x 3 mm.
Found in ca. 2005.
